The role of media in prolonging racism.

Amidst ongoing calls from certain echelons of government for its regulation, the news media in South Africa has often been accused of perusing a biased narrative. This comes at a time when the country which celebrates 22 years of democracy in 2016 is finding itself awash with incidents of a racist nature from various spheres. This begs the question: Is the media through its reporting prolonging racial prejudices and stereotypes in South Africa? Signature Africa’ Network’s Naledi Moleo  sat down with the Forum of Journalists for Transformation’s (FOJT) Piet Ramepedi  and William Bird a director at Media Monitoring Africa and explored this ongoing subject.
