Welcome to Winnie’s Soul & Jazz Restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg. A hangout for good food, good music and a place for beginners. This venue is positioning itself as a place where fun loving Joburgers choose to start their weekend. It’s the spot to relax if you choose to, dance if that’s what you fancy or just enjoy a cocktail or two.
Behind good food and good vibes at Winnies lies a concept called Black Velvet. This idea was born out of a need to provide a platform for young, up coming, and at times unknown artists, to strutt their stuff. Music producers and record company executives have taken note of this place and they come to scout for good talent.
Kologano Sechele talks about the inspiration that drives her. She tells Lwando Notshe of SANtv about her journey with Black Velvet, teaming up with Winnie’s Restaurant and why she decided to kick start 2016 with a tribute to the internationally acclaimed songstress Miriam Makeba. Lwando also spoke to Tsotso, an upcoming artist who had the honour of performing some of Miriam Makeba’s greatest hits for a live audience. We also get a glimpse of what to expect in 2017.
